POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
ライカノ
Lai Kanok serves dishes including kaeng pa, a Thai curry made without coconut milk, gapao rice and yum woon sen. Choose a lunch set or order several small dishes to share.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Kaeng pa, sometimes called “forest curry”, is a Thai curry made without coconut milk. One diner described the beef version at Lai Kanok as combining the flavours of red curry with fragrant lemongrass, makrut lime leaves and krachai. It also comes with a variety of ingredients, including straw mushrooms, aubergine and green pepper. A good option for anyone looking for a dish with plenty of herbal aroma and heat.
Some diners have chosen a lunch set that comes with a salad, soup and dessert alongside the main dish. Yum woon sen has been praised for its memorable spiciness, and pairing it with gapao rice brings more Thai flavours to the table. One diner offered specific comments on the aroma of holy basil and the heat in the chicken gapao. Beef gapao rice is also on the menu, giving diners a choice of meat.
You can also skip the set and order a few dishes to share. One diner who visited with a friend chose à la carte so they could try side dishes as well as green curry and gapao. The menu also includes pad Thai, squid, noodles served without broth, and curry with stewed chicken and potatoes. Drinks include beer and mango shakes, while dessert options include tapioca in coconut milk. For a final treat, one diner reported that their khanom thuai arrived piping hot.
Lai Kanok in Kita-Senju has lunch and dinner menus, and offers both dine-in and takeaway. The restaurant is listed as accepting cash only, so it is worth bringing cash.
